Wetlands Carp Fishery (Pairs)

Final - 03/03/2017

We have chosen this venue for the Ladies British Carp Cup Pairs competition as it has proved itself with the Singles Ladies British Carp Cup. The Ladies pairs is a new event introduced at the request of alot of ladies out there that are a bit shy of entering a singles. We are hoping that this event takes off as well as the singles did.

Fishing is by day ticket, 24 hour tickets are by invite only.
Our lake is approximately 9.5 acres in size and has many features and islands for the Carp and fisherman alike. We have a great head of carp from stunning Common Carp, clean and scaled up Mirror Carp to Ghost Carp and Koi Carp. We also remove the high doubles from the match lake each year and relocate them in the specimen lake.
As a result of this we have a lot of mid to high teens carp with a quite a few over 20lb. The biggest to date is nearly 32lb with another not far behind.
There are toilets and showers next to the cafe and a portaloo at other end of lake in the car park.
Maximum of 3 rods on here. Set within the Wetlands Animal Park it is all part of the same complex.

The Cafe serves a range of hot and cold sandwiches, crisps and various chocolate bars. Also available are hot and cold drinks. A breakfast service is available for overnighters although at present this consists of hot sandwiches. Sausage, Sausage and egg, bacon and bacon and egg.
There is a small charge each and your orders must be texted in by 7pm the previous evening stating what you want and which peg you are on.
These will then be delivered to your peg between 8am and 9am.
On selected days a full breakfast is available at 08:30hrs from the cafe. Please ask for details if required.
Wetlands Tackle Tin is now "open" and sells a range of terminal tackle from a range of manufacturers such as Taska, JK Angling, NGT etc as well as luggage, fish care, cradles, landing nets etc etc.
Wet Baits is Wetlands Tackle Tin own range of high quality boilies in both freezer and shelf life. They have several main flavours for both summer and winter campaigns and a few guest flavours throughout the year.

Pre Match Report

This venue has been the home of our ladies singles event for the past 2 years but now with more and more ladies wanting to enter these events the singles has had to move to a larger venue. This year see’s us trialling this ladies pairs event. Some of the ladies have fished here before in our competitions but there are also some newcomers. It’s a very strong field and it looks like it should be a cracking event on a carp fishery surrounded by an animal park.

Post Match Report

This is our first ladies pairs event with a very strong field. Some of the ladies are England internationals and others have been making a name for  themselves while catching on a regular basis.

There was some interesting choices at the draw. First out of the bag were the England ladies, Sam Hoskins and Ellen Beedham, who quickly opted for the ever popular peg 10. This peg produced the goods for Emily Blake in our singles event 2 years running when she finished runner up in 2015 and winner in 2016. Another England ladies pairing of Elaine and Debbie Taylor, came 6th out of the draw bag and chose peg 3, where Elaine won our first ladies event in 2015. This match came to life very quickly when Paula Marriott and Lyn Worster got on the scoreboard after only 15 minutes with a 13lb 9oz common. Meanwhile Becky Sharman and Nicola Stannard also caught in the first hour, landing a mirror of 15lb 6oz. There were more fish out Friday but all to the rods of Elaine and Debbie, putting them on 51lb 9oz for 4 fish going into Friday night.

Saturday morning came and after a fish free night the girls started catching again. First were Sam and Ellen with a small mirror weighing just over 6lb. Then Elaine and Debbie added another 8lb+ to cement their lead. Finally Becky and Nicola Had another fish of 15lb+ putting them firmly in second place and it was only 10:30am. It looked like a busy day was on the cards but for some reason it was not to be. Saturday was over and Sunday morning arrived without the scales being used again. We got to within 20 minutes of the end when Elaine and Debbie banked their 6th fish of the competition giving them a decisive victory for which they received trophies and a cheque for £600. Becky and Nicola took runners up receiving trophies and a cheque for £300. Paula and Lyn finished in third and also received trophies and a cheque for £200. Sam and Ellen were the only other pair to catch and took 4th place.
